Plein Air Tuesday - 6/4/24 - Clarkdale Park

Can't believe it, this is the only picture I took of the Gazebo -- hey, but at least I captured some good information for all of you.  That's a list of the Concerts in the Park there this Summer -- you're welcome! 😌

I arrived and didn't think anyone was there, so hanging out in my car and waiting to see if anyone was going to show up when I recognized a hat in my rearview mirror.

Betty and walking towards her is Pat

I was glad to see that I wasn't just sitting there by myself.  It was still a bit early but others started to show up.

Definitely know that Jeep

Yes, it comes with a coffee mug!

Mike & his Mug

Pat didn't stick around for long to chat as she had already decided she wanted to take the Train for her spot. Gee, almost makes it sound like she really traveled to her spot.

Right after that another car came by and Kathi appeared.  It's like magic, a car comes by, parks and out pops an artist.

Kathi

And, then the lady in Red!

Tecla

Right after seeing Tecla,  a stranger came walking over looking like maybe she just might be looking for a group of artists.  As it turned out, she was and guess what??  She's another New Girl!

Introductions were quickly made all around amidst various conversations.  Gail found us through Barbra who is away for a bit.    While she's lived in the area  and painted for many, many years, this was her first time trying it en plein air.  So everyone welcome Gail!!

At least the location makes it easy to see when someone else shows up at the park, because as we were STILL talking (we were a chatty group that morning), LeAnne drove up.

And, if you look close, you can see LeAnne's smiling😊!

So, here's the story -- I never left the park and you know what that means.  I missed a lot of spots! So, if you weren't in the park we can only guess where your spot was based on the paintings and sketches which we'll see in the galley.

Ok, so while technically Betty's spot wasn't "in the park", she was viewable from it because here she is!

Betty in her spot

Gail, the New Girl, picked a spot near the swings -- just in case she wanted to take a ride.

LeAnne found a spot on the edge, guess she wanted to see if any cars drove by, either that or she was spying on the people in the pink house.

My spot looked like a place you might just want to sit.

While I was setting up I had a few surprises.  Here's the first.

Kristen

Yes, Kristen was able to make it today -- her grandchild care duties don't always allow her to come out and play.  Glad to see you could make it Kristen!

And, THEN,  and THEN,  -- ok we haven't had a song break in a really long time, just couldn't help myself as it just popped into my head (I always told you it could get scary in there)

"And Then Along Came Jones" by the Coasters

Hopefully, you all weren't afraid to click on that link -- the song is really an oldie, but it does make you smile - and just in case you didn't click, here is the first verse along with the chorus:

I plopped down in my easy chair and turned on Channel Two
A bad gunslinger called Salty Sam was chasin' poor Sweet Sue
He trapped her in the old sawmill and said with an evil laugh
"If you don't give me the deed to your ranch I'll saw you all in half!"
And then he grabbed her (and then?)
He tied her up (and then?)
He turned on the bandsaw (and then, and then?)

And then along came Jones
Tall, thin Jones
Slow-walkin' Jones
Slow-talkin' Jones
Along came long, lean, lanky Jones

Bet, you'll have that song running through your head for a bit!

Ok, back to Plein Air Tuesday and my next surprise -- drum roll and a time stamp is needed - who can it be now?  Oh dear, I really was only going to do just one song - but seriously "Who Can It Be Now?" -- I have to at least give you the link: "Who Can It Be Now" by Men At Work

Time Stamp Nita 8:15

Not bad Nita, only 15 minutes after the scheduled meet up time.  Careful, we'll start expecting you to be on time before you know it.

When you see the next spot, you'll see it's a good thing we're only there for 2 hours.  Otherwise this guy would've been in Full Sun!
Mike

Mike in his spot -- in the shade!!  Kristen also took a big chance as she's really on the edge and just barely shaded by the leaves.

Kristen

Tecla finished early and came back over to the park to visit.  I also took that as my cue to pack up.

Tecla, LeAnne

Oh, my - but WAIT, there's more!!  More artists that is.  Check this out!

Christine

How about that, turns out Christine was hanging out on a street corner (hmmm, wonder if her husband knows she does that).  Oh, I guess I should be more specific, "hanging out on a street corner painting!"

Well, we used our trusty backpacks, bags and whatever on top of a picnic table to build our gallery.  Turned out to be quite the display!  What a great, friendly and talented group.

As you'll see from the headcount in the group shot, we had a few artists who managed to do more than one - it's amazing what some can do in under 2 hours!  And, since everyone was already lined up looking at the paintings, it made it easy for us to gather closer and smile on 2!

Front Row (L to R) Pat leaning forward, Me, Betty
Middle Row - Kristen, Kathi, Nita, Christine, Tecla, LeAnne
Back Row - New Girl Gail, Mike (both wearing shades)

What a pretty morning it was and the park did provide just the right amount of shade.  As always, it just zoomed by but we'll all gather again someplace next week to give it another go.

Hope to see you there!
