We started out by meeting in the parking lot down behind SAC. Suzette and I arrived and Chris, Sandy & Nita (just realized she was there really early -- Wow -- impressive Nita) were already waiting.

Oh, and much to my surprise when we got out of the car - the WIND was whipping through there. But, that does seem to be the case for that particular area, as it wasn't the first time we arrived in that lot and experienced heavy winds. Mike and his mug arrived next. Oh look at the smoke in the background.
Cynde was also eating her breakfast -- of all things an apple and it wasn't one from the tree in the first picture.
Well, wasn't that convenient, there were 8 of us and 2 of the artists have State Park Passes. So, after waiting until just after 8:30, we all piled into 2 different vehicles making sure passes were brought along and headed up to Slide Rock where, upon arrival, we all immediately started wandering around because we had so many choices of places to paint.

Christine was the only one that got right to it, she picked the first orchard meadow we came to.

At first I thought that was where Suzette was going to stay too, but nope, she had to check out a lot of places too.

Here's Chris, Nita & Mike looking around and this isn't where they wound up either. Although, it's possible Nita's spot was near there.

See what I mean, here's Chris and if you look close you'll realize that's Nita on the left. Still wandering around.

There really was a lot to look at and decisions for a spot to pick were not easily made by anyone as is obvious by all the wandering that went on.

Still undecided - oh, hate to state the obvious but, I clearly had a tough time picking a spot too which is why I was able to get all these pics of people wandering around.
I wasn't kidding about everyone just wandering around. I think that's the most time any of us has ever spent trying to decide on a spot, but all doing it gleefully.

I was located on the other side of the path from Mike & Suzette and Sandy was just across from me.

I did wander down to the water and it's my understanding that was where Cynde wound up, however, I never saw her. She took off quite quickly from the parking lot and didn't see her again until gallery time. But, here are some pics from the walk to the water.

Well, when it was well past our usual 2 hours, we finally wrapped things up and built our gallery.
Oh, I forgot to mention. David was actually there, but we have no idea where as we didn't see him until we were wrapping up. I did hear from him though. Here's his text and my response.
Aren't you impressed with my reply, really sounded like I knew where I was 😳. Geez, I just realized he didn't have Christie join us for the photo, also never found out if she caught any fish either as that was what she had wanted to do. Sorry about that, I clearly wasn't organized enough and we really would have loved to have had her in it.
But, when all was said and done, everyone commented on how we were really glad we went there to do a "preview" for the Slide Rock Fest on 10/7. It really helped us to decide what we would be doing on that day, looks like we'll be very busy painting. With so many options, it'll be nice to have more time. Everyone loved the location and we also decided that we will be adding this to our regular rounds even though we all don't have a State Park Pass. When we're just doing our regular paint outs, we can always carpool. Also, if there's anyone that still wants to sign up for the 7th, let me know.
Well, back to our group photo of happy wandering artists who all managed to smile on 2 and thankfully wandered into the photo!

Well, from that photo it's obvious the ones that looked for shade that morning and didn't need to have the sun shining on them -- it was something Mike was very preoccupied with when we were deciding on spots. It was all I kept hearing him say, this spot will be in the shade, that spot will be in the shade, I think this spot will be in the shade the whole time we're here. Gee, if this location didn't have an official name we could've called it "The place that has spots in the shade". Something like Ed's place where he kept saying "It's really pretty when there's water in it". Well, anyway the rest of us at the beginning needed sun and after just a bit we were wishing we did follow Mike's advice and pick the shade.
We're starting to head into the Fall temps, will have to think about bringing another top/jacket along.
Oh before I go - directions to where to meet at Tlaquepaque can be found on the right.
Have a good week!
Cecilia
